Our nine allergen replacement products available for licensing are: Acitral, Jasphene, Lioral, Neoctin, Nugenol, Ribescone, Coumane, Tricitrol and Trinalool

Acitral®

The cis and trans isomers of 3, 7 dimethyl 2,6 octadienal, collectively known as citral are the character impact odorants of lemon, and are commonly used in flavor and fragrance. Citral is rather reactive because it contains an aldehyde group and two double bonds. In particular, acid conditions lead to cyclization reactions which rapidly produce unpleasant-smelling derivatives. This makes it difficult to use citral as a flavor in certain common applications, e.g. in acid lemonade drinks. Alternatives to citral in which the aldehyde is replaced with a nitrile and/or the carbon chain is saturated have long been known but their odor character is not entirely satisfactory.

Acitral B ® is several orders of magnitude more stable than citral in acid media, has a fresh, lemon smell and can be made using inexpensive geraniol itself as a starting material.

Acitral B ® and its derivatives are protected by patents pending and awarded.

Uses Acitral B ® was designed to be used as a citral replacement in fragrance and flavor applications in acid media.It also serves as a citral replacement for general use in fragrance to avoid EU restrictions.

News Acitral B ® has just received FEMA GRAS certification. Production is scheduled Q4 2006.

Jasphene®

Amyl- (i.e. pentyl) and hexyl cinnamic aldehydes are commonly used raw materials in floral compositions. They have mild, sweet-oily, slightly floral odors with herbaceous undertones. Amyl cinnamal has been identified as a potential allergen by the EU. Jasphene® is a replacement molecule for both compounds, though its odor is closer to that of hexylcinnamic aldehyde, with a floral-fruity 'olive oil' note. It is of greater potency than its congener HCA.

Uses Jasphene® was designed as a replacement for amyl and hexyl cinnamic aldehydes in jasmine and other floral compositions.

Lioral®


Lily-of-the-valley (Muguet) aromachemicals are a mainstay of fresh floral notes, widely used in both fine fragrance and in functional products. Two of the most common muguet materials, hydroxycitronellal and Lyral® have been identified as allergens. Muguet materials fall into two categories: 1) Low-cost, low-to-medium impact materials like Lyral®, Lilial® and hydroxycitronellal with a soft, fresh-floral character 2) High-impact, higher-cost materials like Florhydral® and Dupical® with a brighter, more aldehydic character.

We have developed a high-impact material with a softer odor profile. Lioral® has a fresh, floral muguet smell without aldehydic or 'chemical' harshness, and is of comparable potency to Florhydral®.

Lioral® has none of the rapid habituation problems of Lilial® and Lyral® to naive subjects. An unanticipated property of Lioral® is its odor-enhancing ability. When smelled for a few minutes, Lioral seems able to transiently enhance general odor perception, including that of food. We are currently subjecting this property to full scientific tests.

Uses Lioral® was designed as a soft, radiant, powerful muguet aromachemical for use in fine and functional fragrance. Odor enhancer.

Neoctin® was designed as a replacement for MOC and other octin esters, and has an intense violet leaf smell without containining an acetylenic moiety.

Neoctinl® and its derivatives are protected by patents pending.

Uses MOC replacement.

Acitral®

Nugenol® was designed as a replacement for isoeugenol, and is the first carnation aromachemical incorporating a thioether moiety. Its odor profile has the floral sweetness of isoeugenol, and it is of comparable potency and tenacity.

Nugenol® and its derivatives are protected by patents pending.

Acitral®

Ribescone® exists in two variants so far, alpha and delta and is named after the blackcurrant Ribes nigrum. This class of compounds was designed as an alternative to the damascones, but easier to synthesize and devoid of the conjugated double bond responsible for near-UV absorption and consequent photosensitisation.

The Ribescones® are protected by patents pending.

Uses The Ribescones® (alpha and delta) are less diffusive than their damascone counterparts, but they are extremely tenacious and their "cassis" odor profile is very natural almost devoid of non-fruity aspects such as woody and camphoraceous.

Acitral®

Coumane® was designed as a replacement for coumarin, a classic aromachemical restricted in use as a flavor and used in "fougère" compositions which has now been classed as an allergen.

Coumane® and its derivatives are protected by patents pending. Coumane® has just received FEMA GRAS status for use as a flavor.

Uses The odor and taste profiles of Coumane® are strikingly close to those of coumarin, with no "lactonic" aspects. It may be used in conjunction with coumarin where usage levels dictate.

Tricitrol® was designed as a replacement for citronellol, a classic rosy-citrus aromachemical which has now been classed as an allergen.

Tricitrol® and its derivatives are protected by patents pending.

Uses The odor profile of Tricitrol® is strikingly close to that of citronellol, but more powerful and substantive, lasting several days on a smelling strip.
